Just what are the Risks?
Businesses can face fines of up to $467,500 and individuals up to $93,000 or 5 years imprisonment.
Example Case 1
In Microsoft's November 2007 'Infrigement Alert' Michael Zhoa, trading as Super Billing Net agreed to pay Microsoft $60,000 for infringement of copyright over an illegally copied disk containing Office 2007, Visio, Project and Expression.
Example Case 2
Also in Nov 2007 CityLink Computers agreed that there was an unauthorised copy of Windows XP and Office 2003 on a personal computer and the Directors agreed to pay Microsoft $35,000 as a result of the infringement.
